Why Play them?
As you probably saw I tipped the pies to win by 16 points against the saints, the pies got up by 8 goals which was good but hey, its only the pre-season although there were good signs etc etc.
It doesnt show for anything really except giving these youngsters a run which Collingwood didnt really do. But everyone says that, that the pre-season is all about the youngsters, i disagree to a certain degree. Because whats the point of blooding these youngsters if they aint gonna play another senior game to the NAB cup next year? Fair enough if they are a chance to play round 1 I suppose, as a coach I would rather get the players that are penciled in for round one and get them match fit instead of chucking them in the deep end in round 1 with no match practice and then use the extended bench by playing all the 'fringe' players and let them battle for the final positions.
Some might say how do you expect the players that are on the outer to show that they can mix it in the big league? Well thats where consistency in the VFL comes in to it. And let them work there way up. Or injury could cause somebody unexpected to play at the top level. But playing youngsters in the NAB cup/challenge also does have its advantages. Which are quite obvious, so I will let you figure those ones out.
Anyway back to the game it was good to see Collingwood get up and there were promising signs with Heath Shaw was the Pies best along with Fraser and Cloke.
And Congrats to a fellow Queenslander in David Armitage who played a terrfic game aswell.
experienced squad in this week.
Experienced Squad in this week.
Experienced Squad in this week. The Pie's have put in quite an experienced squad this weekend to vs the Saints at MC Labour Park on Friday afternoon. While there are virtually 'no names' in Shannon Cox, Ryan Cook, Brad Dick, Alan Toovey and Daniel Nicholls. High draft pick Nathan Brown will play his second game for the pies after picking up 8 disposals against the roos. It will also be interesting to see how new recruits Chris Bryan and Paul Medhurst go this week. There are also the likes of Buckley, Clement, Wakelin, Burns, Fraser and Presti'. Four players still need to be dropped so dont be suprised if a couple of the 'older' players are rested.Burns ended up with 29 disposals and 14 marks last week so it will be good to see if the 'war horse' still has got it in him. Pendlebury also impressed with 29 disposals and it will be interesting to see if there are early signs of some needed consistency for him this season. The to Scotts' are set to fire so watch out St. K.Bucks will be on a high after accepting the offer to captain for his ninth successive season and we should see a good game from him with probable limited game time.Looking at the Collingwood side you would be excused for thinking that they would be slight favourites in a pre-season match against a side that is known for its injuries but looking at the Saints side there is the likes of Gehrig, Ball, Dal Santo, Harvey and Milne. It will also be interesting for all involved to see how Shane Birss and Jayden Attard go in their second game for the club.So there is plenty to look forward to for supporters of both sides. But I think collingwood should get over the line is this game.Tip: Collingwood 16 points.

Young Cubs at the Lions
Do the Lions Have The Formula For Success?
Saturday, 3rd March 2007.
Hi everyone this is my first Blog on this site, so i better introduce myself my name is Bradley and i am a Seventeen Year old Brisbane Lions Supporter, i live in country South Australia and i have a soft spot for the Adelaide Crows.
I was watching the Brisbane Lions vs. Western Bulldogs game last night and noticed Bruce McAvaney and Dennis Comettis comments about the young Lions side. They said how impressive young players on the Brisbane Lions list are, and it made me think. The Lions do have a great crop of Young Players, and arent reguallary referred to as one of the teams of the future (e.g. Hawthorn, Port Power, Richmond, Western Bulldogs and Cartlon.) Carlton may have Bryce Gibbs and Marc Murphy, The Power may have Danyel Pearce and Hawthorn may have Lance Franklin and Mark Williams, but i think the Lions have and overall better crop of young players.
Here is a the group of Young Players i think hold the key to the Lions Finals asperations in the next few years.
Matthew Leuenberger ,Daniel Merrett, Michael Rischitelli, Jason Roe, Cameron Wood, Chris Schmidt, Justin Sherman, Troy Selwood, Cheynee Stiller, Albert Proud, Rhan Hooper, Colm Begly, Joel Patfull, Jed Adcock, Jonathan Brown, Jarred Brennan and Mitchell Clark.
The future of the team is looking bright in my opinion and i think that the Lions might be set to return to the top of the AFL within the next two or three years.

Carlton in 2007
I think Carlton will be able to beat , Essendon, Melbourne (we did it twice last year), Brisbane, Richmond, Port Adelaide and then shock a few of the big guns like Adelaide, Sydney and West Coast.
My Tips for who would be in a good side week in week out
B: Adam Bentick - Bret Thornton - Jason Saddington
HB: Ryan Houlihan - Lance Whitnall - Matthew Lappin
C: Andrew Walker - Heath Scotland - Bryce Gibbs
HF: Kade Simpson - Jarrad Waite - Anthony Koutoufides
F: Eddie Betts - Brendan Fevola - Brad Fisher
R: Cain Ackland - Nick Stevens - Marc Murphy
I/C: Andrew Carrazzo - Dylan McLaren - Setanta O'hAilpin - Jordan Russell
Em: Luke Blackwell - Cameron Cloke - Simon Wiggins
This would beat most teams any day on two privisos... Fevola can remain unsuspended and Stevens, Betts, Gibbs, Murphy and Kouta can remain uninjured.
I think Carlton will try their best this year as it is Kouta's final year and to the team would like to send him off on a high as he is the last of the team of 95 when they last won the GF

West Coast Loses Pre-Season Derby
But... thankfully my dear girlfriend has fox, so i managed to catch most of the game up until Gray's Anatomy started.
All in all, a 6 goal loss is fine. Its the preseason... Who cares?? Geelong won last year, and weren't they devastating during the finals last year? oh wait a second...
Cool, so the Dockers managed to knock up a meaningless win, while the eagles gave a fair run to our young lads Matty Rosa, Matty Priddis and Mark LeCras. Their throwback numbers of Worsfold (24), McIntosh (11) and Kempy (2) are great. Especially the LeCras/Kemp lookalike tribute. Some concerns were raised when Rowan Jones took to the field (sorry Jonesy), but with Chris and Nightclub Embly out and Daniel Kerr behind bars, i guess our options were pretty limited...
- Ben Cousins is in dire need of a non-metro haircut...
- Mark Seaby would be so much better if he got a little "bad".
- Lynchy looks "bad"... Unfortunately he doesn't really play too "good" yet...
- I reckon a black guernsey would look awesome.
- Adam Hunter will be an all-australian this year. With C*nter being a slightly inapropriate family-friendly-nickname, i'd like to propose the name Adonis Hunter. He's chiseled like a greek god and is pretty into his looks, plus it starts with Ad like Adam. I'm not gay.
- Is Mmm-Bop Hanson, Rump Staker and Lynchy really a forward line?
